RECENT RELEASES

Released December, 2021. This album, The Field, soundscape compositions 2018–2019, gathers three works from a few years back which i consider foundational to my practice. They have been expertly mastered by my colleague N.B.Aldrich and are offered here for your enjoyment and consideration...

Released May, 2018. This album, four years less four days, documents the two most recent sets by my duo, Kilter, with percussionist Curt Newton. These two sets were both performed at Washington St. Art Center in Somerville, Massachusetts, almost precisely four years apart. Heard on these recordings:

Curt Newton: drumset
Steve Norton: sopranino, soprano and baritone saxophones, bass and contra alto clarinets

Released May, 2017, 11-6-2016 is a quintet improvisation document from N.B.Aldrich which features:

N.B.Aldrich: recordings
Duane Ingalls: percussion, toys, voice and processing
Anoush Moazzeni: piano+ and celesta
Steve Norton: low clarinets, saxophones and celesta
Leslie Ross: basson and laptop

This recording was made on the titular date at the IMRC Center at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. In particular, it documents the work of the under-recorded pianist Anoush Moazzeni, whom we are very pleased to be able to work with.

The recording was engineered by co-producer Duane Shimmel; he and co-producer N.B.Aldrich collaborated on the mix and mastering, to excellent effect!

Released January, 2017 by Painted Throat Music, Impossible to See Closer is a new recording by Closers, my duo with bassist Ryan McGuire. We made it at Odd Fellows Recording in East Weymouth, Massachusetts, in mid-July, 2016, shortly before my move to Maine. I am very pleased with it! Featuring:

Ryan McGuire: acoustic bass
Steve Norton: sopranino, soprano, alto and baritone saxophones and bass and contra alto clarinets.

The album was very ably recorded by Jerry MacDonald and mastered by Kevin Frenette.
